THE NORTHERN PLAINS:-
(1) The Northern plain extends, South of the Himalayas, from Punjab to the Brahmaputra valley in Assam.
(2) It comprises three drainage basins. They are the indus , the Ganga and and the Bhramaputra valley.
(3) It has perennial rivers which are both snowfed and tainted.
(4) The rivers provide water for good irrigation facilities and navigation.
(5) These river valleys or basins are very thickly populated and agriculturally developed.
THE PENINSULAR PLATEAU :-
(1) THE PENINSULAR PLATEAU covers the southern part of India. It is roughly triangular in shape with its base.
(2) It comprises mainly two divisions. They are Central Highlands and Deccan PLATEAU.
(3) It has rivers which are only rainfed. They are seasonal on character.
(4) Irrigation facilities are limited. Tank irrigation is important. River courses do not permit much navigation.
(5) This region is generally moderate populated. It has some pockets of dence population.
