Question :

Three rectangles have the following dimensions :

(i) 9 m and 6 m

(ii) 3 m and 17 m

(iii) 4 m and 14 m

Which one has the largest area and which one has the smallest?

Solution :

Calculating the area of the first rectangle which has the following dimensions :-

  • Length of the rectangle = 9 m
  • Breadth of the rectangle = 6 m

Using formula,

  • Area of rectangle = l × b

where,

  • l denotes the length
  • b denotes the breadth

Substituting the given values :-

→ Area of rectangle = 9 × 6

→ Area of rectangle = 54

Area of the first rectangle = 54 m²

Calculating the area of the second rectangle which has the following dimensions :-

  • Length of the rectangle = 3 m
  • Breadth of the rectangle = 17 m

Using formula,

  • Area of rectangle = l × b

Substituting the given values :-

→ Area of rectangle = 3 × 17

→ Area of rectangle = 91

Area of the second rectangle = 91 m²

Calculating the area of the third rectangle which has the following dimensions :-

  • Length of the rectangle = 4 m
  • Breadth of the rectangle = 14 m

Using formula,

  • Area of rectangle = l × b

Substituting the given values :-

→ Area of rectangle = 4 × 14

→ Area of rectangle = 56

Area of the third rectangle = 56 m²

Therefore, the area of the second rectangle is the largest and the area of the first rectangle is the smallest.
