lichen is a organism that is formed by the symbiotic association of a fungus and an algae and occurs as crusty patches or bushy growths on tree trunks , bare ground , etc..

Lichen is a symbiotic relationship between algae and fungi. The algal part is called as phycobiont and responsible for food production while the fungal part is called as mycobiont which provides shelter
