If α and β are the zeros of P(x) =2x2
- x - 6, then find the value of α

if α and β are the roots of equation (1) then,

α+β = - (b/a)

αβ=(c/a)

therefore, comparing 2x^2-x - 6=0 with equation (1) we get

α+β = - (- 1/2)

αβ=(-6/2)

therefore

α+β = 1/2

αβ= - 3

now,

α - 1+β -1= α+β - 2=(1/2) -2 = - 3/2
