Explanation:

The ext.ernal ear receives and collects the sound waves and then directs them to the eardru.m. The sound waves travel through the external auditory canal.

Firstly the waves are generated in the per.ilym.ph present in the scala vest.ibuli and then in the end.olymph present in the scala media. The waves in the endo.lymph induce a ripple in the basilar membrane. The bas.ilar movements bend the hair cells present in the organ of Co.rti pressing them against the t.ectorial memb.rane. This generates the nerve impulse in the associated af.ferent ne.urons. The impulse gets transm.itted to the audi.tory region of the brain via the auditory nerve. The impulse gets a.nalysed and thus the sound is reco.gnized.
