3x +  \frac{1}{x}  = 6

squaring on both sides,

 {(3x +  \frac{1}{x} }^{2} ) =  {6}^{2}

 {9x}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} }  + 2(3x)( \frac{1}{x} ) = 36

 {9x}^{2}   + \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} }  + 6 = 36

 {9x}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} }  = 36 - 6

 {9x}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} }  = 30
