During the nitration of aniline anilinium ion is formed which is deactivating and meta directing group. But if we protect the -nh2 group by acylation main product will be p-nitro aniline. ... When aniline reacts with nitric acid in the presence of acetic anhydride, it gives p-nitroaniline only
