Some people think that examinations have some bad effects on both students and teachers. Some people say they do a good job in the evaluation of the student’s performance. What’s your opinion.
The issue of whether or not the examination is a threat for both students and teachers in current educational system is becoming increasingly controversial. Some assert that there are several detrimental effects in our examinations while others believe that the exam plays an essential role in evaluating students’ performances. Personally, I think that the exam system is an indispensable part of education and the situation would be changed for the better if we deal with negative sides of examinations properly.
Admittedly, it is undeniable fact that the exam bring about some potential drawbacks. Instead of paying more attention on what they can really benefit from, students prefer a higher score in their performance on the test. The situation would be worse in some developing countries because people are accustomed to regard a high score transcript as all aspects of one. Moreover, pursuing better performance in the exam probably undermines one’s creativity. How can one cultivates his or her creativity in endless paper practices for higher score?
However, the exam system is still a crucial part in present-day education. In the first place, exam is still the most efficient way to assess one’s study outcomes. Although some entertaining educational methods have been applied to schooling, the effects of those informal teaching ways are unsatisfied. It is obvious that the exam system is more scientific and systemic. In the second place, exam is also imparting students’ awareness of competition. They may regard their classmates as competitors and they will profit from these which can bring them huge rewards in this competitive society. Finally, the exam provides us with a more fair competition, which would be the only way to obtain more opportunities and resources for most poverty.
In conclusion, we can not ignore the advantages from examinations although it confuses us in some aspects. I suggest that our educators and parents should emphasize on all-round development to children rather than only concerning about children's achievements in examinations
