It is also known as hydrological cycle or hydrologic cycle
It describes the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of earth.(i.e. between the atmosphere and the seas and oceans and other water bodies on the surface of earth)
The mass of water on earth always remains the same.
But sometimes the separation of water into the reservoirs of ice, fresh water, saline water and the atmospheric water varies depending upon the climatic conditions of the area.
Water cycle also involves the exchange of energy which results in the change in the temperature. When water rises from a place (let it be land or water bodies), it takes up energy from its surroundings and cools the environment. When it condenses, it releases the energy and warms up the environment. This exchange of heat leads to the change in the climate as well.
