When sodium metal is added to alcohol , Sodium ethanoate and Hydrogen gas is evolved...The compound C3H8O can also be written as CH3 - CH2 - CH2 - OH which is one of the member of alcohol as it contains alcoholic group - OH...

( a ) Compund A is propanol...

When alcohol is heated with concentrated H2SO4 , alcohol looses its water molecule and become Alkene ( unsaturated hydrocarbon ).

This reaction is known as dehydration of Alcohol...

Alcohol + Conc. H2sO4 ===> Alkene + H2O

Propanol + Conc. H2sO4 ===> Propene + H2O

( b ) Compound B is Propene which is an unstaturated hydrocarbon which decolourises the bromine water ( bromine water is brown in colour ,,,, Saturated hydrocarbon doesnt change colour of bromine water )

( c ) The reaction is Dehydration reaction

When Propene is reacted with Hydrogen gas in the presenec of nickel catalyst , addition reaction takes place. In this reaction , Propene converts into propane

( d ) Compund C is a propane.

( e ) The reaction is addition reaction.
Addition reaction => a reaction in which hydrogen is added to unstaturated hydrocarbon to give staturated hudrocarbon in the presence of nickel catalyst.

The reaction in which one or more atoms of carbon compund ( hydrocarbon ) are replaced by the other atoms like halogen ( Cl , F , Br etc ) is called substitution reaction.

Example => Chloromethane

CH4 + Cl ==( Sunlight )==> CH3 - Cl + HCl
