Let's assume that

DB is a tree of height ( h ) that breaks from point A and touches the ground at point C

So, it will form a right angled triangle ABC

where B is 90° hence,

CB = 12m

AB = 9m

DA = AC. (broken part of tree)

DB = hm

Solution

we have to find out h

Now, in right angled Triangle ABC

we know that

AC² = AB² + CB².

(By Pythagoras theoram)

Putting the value of AB , AC , CB

AC² = (9)² + (12)²

AC² = 81 +144

AC² = 225

AC = 15 m

And as we have mentioned above that AC = DA

DA = 15m

Now total height of tree = DA + AB

h = 15 + 9 = 24m

Total height of tree will be 24 m

Answer = 24m
