Let the side of a square be a cm and the radius of a circle r cm .

Given ,

length of diagonal = 8 cm

=> a√2 = 8 cm

=> a = 8/√2 * √2/√2

=> a = 4√2 cm

NOW ,

diagonal of square = diameter of the circle = 8cm

so, radius of circle = 8/2 = 4 cm

Now,

Area of a circle = π r^2
= π (4)^2
= 16 π cm^2

and

Area of square = a^2= (4√2)^2

= 32 cm ^2

So,

area of shaded region

=> Area of circle — Area of square

=> (16 π — 32)
=> 16 * 22/7 —32 cm^2

=> 50.24 — 32 cm^2

=> 18.24 cm^2
