Methods for separating water from oil are:
1) To separate oil from water, add a solution of soluble ionic salt to the solution. Distillation, which involves boiling and condensing the water, is another option, as well as partially freezing the oil and water combination and discarding one-fourth to one-third of the unfrozen water.
2) Changing the state of the water to either a gas or a solid is a means to cleanly remove all of the oil from the water.
3) Using the method of apparatus for separating water and crude oil mixtures and other two-phase fluid mixtures of components of different densities. The mixture is pumped through a conduit in the form of a vertical spiral at a velocity that impels the heavy phase toward the outside of the spiral. A fraction is withdrawn from the outside of the turns of the spiral and is led downwardly to the bottom of a vertical settling tank. Any light phase removed with the heavy phase floats to the top in the settling tank and is reintroduced at the top of the spiral. (image is also uploaded below)
