Answer:

  • Since PQ is parellel to BC, ∆APQ is similar to ∆ABC.
  • Further PQ divides the ∆ABC into two parts of equal areas ∆ABC / ∆APQ =2/1
  • But ∆ABC /∆APQ = (AB /AP)^2=2/1
  • AB/AP = √2/1
  • AB /(AB-AP)=√2/(√2-1)
  • AB/BP=√2/(√2-1)=BP/AB=(√2-1)/√2.
  • So,PB√2=AB(√2-1).
