d. it works on the principle that when a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field it experiences a force acting upon it which makes it to rotate continuously.
when current flows from ABCD the side AB moves downward and CD moves upward(by Flemming's left hand rule).
after half rotation AB comes on the position of CD and CD comes on the position of AB.
The split ring reverses the current and after applying the Flemming's left hand rule CD moves downward and AB upward
now,one complete revolution is taken by the the coil
in the same manner this continues and the coil rotates
