Metals sink because gravity acts on them and hence are pulled to the bottom.

Now, Sodium doesn't only float, observe carefully, you'll realise it is reacting rapidly with water and is releasing heat. Along with this, the small chunk of sodium is in constant random motion on the surface. This horizontal moment along with continuous reaction, prevents it from moving downwards to sink.

That metals will dissolve in water whose densities are more than density of water.i.e 1g/cm^3.

Hope it helps
