Average velocity of a body is defined as the ratio of the total distance travelled by the body in a specific direction to the total time taken by the body to travel that distance.

Now, let the initial velocity of the body be "u", and the final velocity acquired by the body be "v". Also, we can consider that the total time taken to travel the total distance be "t".

Therefore, total distance covered by the body = ut + vt

Time taken = t+t = 2t

So, average velocity = (ut + vt)/2t

= (t (u+v))/2t

= (u+v)/2 [PROVED]
