<C=y, Let <E= <1
<1+ x= 180°(by L.P)
<1+97°=180°
<1=(180-97)°
<1=83°
=>y+<1+<D=180°(From all angles property of a triangle)
=>y+83°+40°=180°
=>y+123°=180°
=>y=(180-123)°
=>y=57°
