P = 1/f

[i] (a) P = + 2 D

→ 2 = 1/f

→ f = 1/2 m

f = 50 cm

This lens is convex lens.

(b) P = - 4 D

→ - 4 = 1/f

→ f = - 1/4

f = - 25 cm

This lens is concave lens.

[ii] (a) Mirror Formula

→ 1/f = 1/v - 1/u

→ 1/50 = 1/v - 1/(- 100)

→ 1/50 - 1/100 = 1/v

100 cm = v

→ 1/(- 25) = 1/v - 1/(- 100)

→ - 1/25 - 1/100 = 1/v

→ - 5/100 = 1/v

v = - 20

(b) m = v/u

m = 100/(- 100)

m = - 1

m = - 20/(- 100) = 1/5

m = + 0.2
