Answer:

Given:

 \bf \star  \: m_1 = m_2 = m \\  \\   \bf \star \: u_1 = u \\  \\  \bf \star \: u_2 = 0

Solution:

 \bf \underline{Let \:  \:  v_1 \:  \:  and  \:  \: v_2 \:  \:  be \:  \:  their  \:  \: velocities \:  \:  after \:  \:  collision}

According to momentum conversation,

 \bf \:  \large \: mu = m(v_1 + v_2)

(or)

 \bf \large \: u = v_1  + v_2........(1)

By definition,

 \bf \large \: e =  \frac{v_2 -v_1 }{u - 0}  \\

(or)

 \bf \large \: v_2  - v_1 = eu..........(2)

Solve the EQ (1) and (2)

we know that,

 \bf \large \: v_1 =  \frac{(1 - e)u}{2}  \\

And,

 \bf \large \: v_2 =  \frac{(1 + e)u}{2}  \\

Therefore,

 \bf \large \boxed{ \frac{v_1}{v_2}  =  \frac{1 - e}{1 + e} } \\
