let the area be A , so in figure 1 the area is divided into 3 parts , area of each would be 1/3A . in the second figure the same area is divided into 4 parts , area of each part be 1/4A.In the last figure, 1/3A -1/8A = 5/24A , 1/8 A is due to half consideration of the small part
