Answer:

The given p(x)=x²-2x-8 and find value of 1/alpha ²+1/beta ²

by middle term splitting,

= x²-2x-8=0

= x²-2x+4x-8=0

=x(x-2)+4(x-2)=0

=(x-2)(x+4)=0

So now,

x-2=0 x+4=0

x=2 x=-4

 \alpha  = 2 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \beta  =  - 4

To find the value of,

 \frac{1}{ { \alpha }^{2} }  +  \frac{1}{ { \beta }^{2} }

 =  \frac{ { \alpha }^{2} +  { \beta }^{2}  }{( { \alpha  \beta })^{2} }

Now put the value,

 =  \frac{ {(2)}^{2} + {( - 4)}^{2}   }{ {((2)( - 4))}^{2} }

 =  \frac{4 + 16}{  64}

 =  \frac{ 20}{ 64}

 =  \frac{5}{16}
