let the original height of the plant be x cm.

then increased height would be = x+ 16%of x = x+ 16x/100

                                                     = x+4x/25

                                                     = 25x+4x/25

                                                      = 29x/25

but, increased height= 29cm (given)

hence, 29x/25=29

           x = 29*25/29

            x= 25 cm.
