let the fraction is x / y
according to question
x is 4 less than y means
x = y-4 -----------equation (1)
now
x is decreased by 2 so (x -2)
and y is increased by 1 so (y+1)
hence 8 (x - 2) = (y + 1) ------------ equation (2)
i multiplied 8 with ( x - 2 ) to balance the equation.
now after solving equation 1 and 2
we get x =3 , y= 7
so fraction is 3/7
