Dividing equation throughout by 6 we get
x^2+4x-7=0
Here you cannot factories so go by formula method
comparing u get
a=1 b=4 c=-8
Now plug in the values in the given formula
x =  \frac{ - b( +  - ) \sqrt[]{b {}^{2} - 4ac } }{2a}
Hope it helps

Heya Dear ☺

I think it's not following the rules of split and middle terms

Because rules are
- Multiply a and c and split in such form so that it would be equal to b
- split b such that it will be satisfy the c and multiplication of ac

And here's in this question

6 {x}^{2} + 24x - 42 = 0 \\ taking \: 6 \: as \: common \:  \\  {x}^{2} + 4x - 7 = 0
a=1 , b=4, c=-7
Here by using above rules
A×C= 7 and the prime factorisation of 7=1×7 and it's not satisfying the split of middle term i.e 4
that's why it can't be possible if we forget about rule then it's very easy like this

 {x}^{2}  + 4x - 7 \\  {x}^{2}  + 4x + 3x - 7 \\ taking \: x \: as \: common \:  \\ x(x + 4) + 3(x + 4) \\ (x + 4)(x + 3) \\ x =  - 4 \:  - 3
Hope it helps you ☺
