Let the totoal no. of swans be x

x - 7/2 root x =2

y2-7/2 y =2 (x =y2)

2y2-7y =4

2y2-7y-4=0

2y2 -8y +y -4 =0

2y(y-4)+1(y-4)=0

(2y+1)(y-4)=0

so y=4

i.e. x=16

so total no. of swans are 16
