Height of cylinder = 3.5 m = 35/10 m = 7/2 m
We know that,
Volume of cylinder = πr²h
= 22/7 × 3/2 × 3/2 × 7/2
= 99/4 m³
∵ 1 m³ = 1000 ltr.
∴ 99/4m³ = 99/4 ×1000 = 24750 ltr.
Now, The volume that we have to emptied is half of volume of cylinder,
Volume of half cylinder = 24750/2 = 12375 ltr.
Again, given that it emptied at rate of 225 litre per minute,
Therefore,
∵ 225 ltr emptied in = 1 min
∴ 1 ltr emptied in = 1/225 min
∴ 12375 ltr emptied in 12375/225 min = 55 minutes.
