Answer:

Option (C)

Explanation:

Let the age of Jack
be y and age of James be x.

Three years ago:

The age of Jack = y - 3.

The age of James = x - 3.

Given that Three years ago James age was 7 times that of jack.

= > x - 3 = 7(y - 3)

= > x - 3 = 7y - 21

= > x - 7y = -21  + 3

= > x - 7y = - 18   ------------ (1)

Given that three years hence James age will be four times that of jack.

= > x + 3 = 4(y + 3)

= > x + 3 = 4y + 12

= > x - 4y = 9 ------ (2)

On solving (1) & (2), we get

= > x - 7y = -18

= > x - 4y = 9

     -------------------

           -3y = -27

              y = 9.

Substitute y = 9 in (1), we get

= > x - 7y = -18

= > x - 7(9) = -18

= > x - 63 = -18

= > x = -18 + 63

= > x  = 45.

Therefore the present age of Jack is 9 years and the present age of James is 45 years.

Hope this helps!
