conservation of momentum

mass of bullet = 0.015 kg and mass of the gun = 3kg

Initial velocity of the bullet =0 and the initial velocity of the gun is 0

Final velocity of the bullet = 300m/s and let the recoil velocity of the gun be x

According to law of conservation of momentum = total momenta after the fire = total momenta before the fire.

m1u1 +m2u2 = m1v1 +m2x

(0.015kg + 3kg) 0m/s = 0.015kg *300 m/s + 3kg * x

0 = 4.5 + 3x

-4.5 = 3x

x = - 4.5/3

x = - 1.5 m/s
