therefore,

length of ladder = √{(distance of the ladder from wall)^2 + (height of wall)^2} [ by pythagoras theorum]

length of ladder = √{(6)^2 + (8)^2}

= √(36 + 64)

= √100

= 10 metres.

Length of ladder = constant.

Now in (ii) case,

distance between wall and ladder = 8 m

and length of ladder = 10 m

Now,

height reached by the ladder = √{(length of ladder)^2 - (distance of the ladder from wall)^2}

therefore,

height reached = √{(10)^2 - (8)^2}

= √(100 - 64)

= √36

= 6 metres Ans.
