Answer :

The numbers are 10 and 12

Step-by-step explanation :

Given,

  • Two numbers are in the ratio 5 : 6
  • When 2 is added to first and 3 is added to second, they are in the ratio 4 : 5

To find,

  • the two numbers

Solution,

   Since the two numbers are in the ratio 5 : 6

Let the two numbers be

  • 5x
  • 6x

⇒ When 2 is added to first, the number becomes

 5x + 2

⇒ When 3 is added to second, the number becomes

 6x + 3

They are in the ratio 4 : 5

     \sf \frac{5x+2}{6x+3} =\frac{4}{5}

    5(5x + 2) = 4(6x + 3)

     25x + 10 = 24x + 12

     25x - 24x = 12 - 10

          x = 2

=> 5x = 5(2) = 10

=> 6x = 6(2) = 12

The numbers are 10 and 12

Verification :

The two numbers are

  • 10
  • 12

Condition - 1 :

the two numbers are in the ratio 5 : 6

     10 : 12 = 5 : 6

    2(5) : 2(6) = 5 : 6

    5 : 6 = 5 : 6

    LHS = RHS

Condition - 2 :

When 2 is added to first and 3 is added to second, they are in the ratio 4 : 5

⇒ 2 is added to first.

2 + 10 = 12

⇒ 3 is added to second,

3 + 12 = 15

  12 : 15 = 4 : 5

 3(4) : 3(5) = 4 : 5

   4 : 5 = 4 : 5

   LHS = RHS

Hence verified!
