Let number of deers be x

1/2 are grazing

Remaining - x/2
Out of these 3/4 are playing nearby
Means out of these 1/4 are drinking water

x/2 * 1/4 = 9
x/2 = 36
x = 72

hi...
Let the no. of deers in the herd be x.

By the given condition ,

Half of them are grazing , 3/4th of the remaining are playing and remaining 9 are drinking water.

so...
 \frac{1}{2} x -  \frac{3}{4}  \times  \frac{1}{2} x = 9

 \frac{x}{2}  -  \frac{3x}{8}  = 9

 \frac{4x}{8}  -  \frac{3x}{8}  = 9...........(l.c.m)

 \frac{4x - 3x}{8}  = 9

 \frac{x}{8}  = 9

x = 9 \times 8

x = 72

Therefore ,
The no. of deer in the herd are 72
