8 = 3/t
t = 8/3 = 2.6666.........
= 2.67hrs
He takes 30mins rest
2.67+30 = 2.97hrs
He'll have to do this 4 times to do 12 km as 3km*4 = 12km
so, 2.97*4 = 11.88hrs or 12 hrs 28 mins
