First of all let discuss about this problem little more.

As we know when a force is acting about a fix point it creates moment about that point.

In Given problem the forces are the weight of boys.

Now moment created by the weight 40kgf

= weight x perpendicular distance from fixed point

=WxD

=40x(2.5-1.5)

=40x1

M1=40kgf-m

(D=total distance of end of the see-saw - distance of weight from free end or end of sew-saw)


Now for balancing the moment right side to the center must equal to moment left side to the center


M1=M2

40=25 x D

D=40/25

D=1.6

1.6m is the distance from center.

Distance from end =2.5-1.6=0.9m
