If a, b are integers and c is a natural number then a b (div c) read as "a is congruent to b when divided by c"
that is c divides a b .
e.g., 7 2 (div 5) as 5 divides 7 2
7 3 (div 5) as 7 3 i.e., 10 is divisible by 5
100 10 (div 45) as 45 divides 100 10
12 2 (div 3) as 3 does not divide 12 2
Similarly, 3 24 (div 7), 15 64 (div 7)
Properties :
If a b (div c)
(i) a k b k (div c) (ii) a k b k (div c)
(iii) ak bk (div c) (iv) n n a b (div c), n N
(v) a b (div c) and 0 b c then b is remainder obtained when a is divided by c
