(i) Element T is a non metal known as " chlorine" it contains 7 electrons in its valence shell.

  • electron = 17
  • proton = 17
  • neutron = 35-17 = 18
  • atomic number = 17
  • atomic mass = 35

(ii) Electron present in the outermost layer of cell of a atom is called Valence electron that is Seven in chlorine.

  • (note :- chlorine has seven valence electrons. It is “eager” to gain an extra electron to fill its outer energy level and gain stability)

(iii) Valency is the power by which it combines with different atoms to form molecules or different type of compound and the valency of chlorine is 1.

  • ( note :- The number of electrons that are shared, lost or gained by an atom during a chemical reaction is also called valency )

(iv) Chlorine is a non-metal because It cannot conduct electricity, it is not flexible, and it is not hard it doesn't show any characteristics of metal so it's a non metal.

  • (note :- chlorine is a gaseous non metal)

(v) proton has a positive charge(+) equal in magnitude and neutron has a negative charge (-) which is nearly equal to that of the proton.

  • atomic number = number of electrons = number of protons = 17
  • neutron = atomic mass - number of protons = 18
