Because the pupil in our eyes takes some time to adjust it's size according to the amount of light in the outer environment. .

light the size of the pupil is small to control the amount of light entering the eye. When we enter a dim room,it takes sometime so that the pupil expands and allows more light to enter and helps us to see things clearly. This iscaused by bleaching of the retinal pigment.
