SOLUTIONS:

Given :-

2 is a root of the quadratic equation 3x² + px - 8 = 0 and the quadratic equation 4x² - 2px + k = 0 had equal roots.

To find :-

The value of 'k'.

Step-by-step-explanation :-

Solving 3x² + px - 8 = 0 ( given root is 2 ).

⇒ 3x² + px - 8 = 0

⇒ 3 × (2)² + p × 2 = 8

⇒ 3 × 4 + 2p = 8

⇒ 12 + 2p = 8

⇒ 2p = 8 - 12

⇒ 2p = - 4

⇒ p = -2

Solving 4x² - 2px + k = 0 ( given root is 2 )

⇒ 4x² - 2px + k = 0

⇒ 4 × (2)² - 2 × (-2) × 2 + k = 0

⇒ 4 × 4 + 8 + k = 0

⇒ 16 - 8 + k = 0

⇒ 8 + k = 0

⇒ k = - 8

∴ The value of k = - 8
