Direct current flows only in one direction. Alternate current is an electric current  which periodically reverses direction.

Direct Current         It is a current supplied by the cell or battery for simple example you can take the example of the remote controlled toy car which runs on battery . In this current split rings are used bcoz of which the direction of the current does not change and the movement continues to be in a single direction.  Alternating current        In this current the current is supplied by a source such as that which you use in mixer or when you charge your mobile in the plug here the plug is the source. It uses slip rings because of which the direction of the current changes uniformly.   Hope it helps!!
