There are two main types of articles in French.  Indefinite and definite.
Indefinite: une, un, and des.  They all mean "one" or "one of".  Use une for feminine nouns, un for masculine nouns, and des for plural nouns.  Pay attention to the endings of nouns.  Usually if it ends in "e" it's feminine.

Definite articles are la, le, et les.
La: feminine
Le: masculine
Les: plural
La, le, and Les mean "the".  They also mean go in front of nouns.
