Given:

A suitcase with

  • Length = 80 cm
  • Breadth = 48 cm
  • Height = 24 cm

A tarpaulin cloth

  • Width = 96 cm

What To Find:

We have to find

  • Metres of trapaulin cloth i.e 96 cm is required to cover 100 suitcases.

How To Find:

To find this, we have to find the

  • Total surface area (TSA) of 1 suitcase
  • Length of trapaulin = TSA
  • Required meters of tarpaulin cloth

Solution:

  • Finding the TSA of 1 suitcase.

Using the formula,

⇒ TSA = 2 (lb + bh + hl)

Substitute the values,

⇒ TSA = 2 (80 × 48 + 48 × 24 + 24 × 80)

Multiply the numbers,

⇒ TSA = 2 (3840 + 1152 + 1920)

Add the numbers,

⇒ TSA = 2 (6912)

Remove the brackets and multiply,

⇒ TSA = 13824 cm²

  • Finding the length of the tarpaulin cloth.

To find length,

⇒ Area of tarpaulin cloth = TSA of 1 suitcase

Use the formula,

⇒ l × b = 13824 cm²

Substitute the values,

⇒ l × 96 = 13824 cm²

Take 96 to RHS,

⇒  \sf{ l = \dfrac{13824}{96}}

Divide 13824 by 96,

⇒ l = 144 cm

  • Finding the required meter of cloth for 100 suitcase.

To find the required meter of cloth,

⇒ Required cloth meters = Length of cloth × 100 suitcases

Substitute the values,

⇒ Required cloth meters = 144 cm × 100

Multiply the values,

⇒ Required cloth meters = 14400 cm

Conversation of 1 m,

⇒ 100 cm = 1 m

Convert it into meters,

⇒ 14400 cm = 144 m

∴ Hence, the required cloth is 144 m.

Formula Used:

  • TSA of cubiod = 2 (lb + bh + hl)
  • Area of rectangle = l × b

Conversation Used:

  • 1 m = 100 cm
