Question:

In the given figure ∆ABC ,DE || BC,AD =1.5 cm, DB=6 cm,AE = x cm EC =8 cm,then x = .….

a)2.5 cm

b)2 cm

c)3 cm

d)3.5 cm

Answer:

B) 2.

Given :

We have ∆ABC,

which sides are AD = 1.5 cm , DB 6 cm , AE = x cm and EC= 8 cm

And, DE || BC.

To Find the Value,

Side AE = x cm.

Solution :

DE || BC, so it's sides are equal,

Let side AE be x cm,

 \leadsto \tt \frac{AD}{DB}  =  \frac{AE}{EC}  \\   \leadsto \tt \frac{1.5}{6}  =  \frac{x}{8}

 \leadsto \tt \frac{1 \cancel{.}5}{60}  =  \frac{x}{8}  \\ \leadsto \tt \frac{ \cancel{1 5}}{ \cancel{60}}  =  \frac{x}{8}

\leadsto \tt \frac{1 }{ \cancel4}  =  \frac{x}{ \cancel8}   \\ \leadsto \tt x = 2 \: cm.

Therefore, the value of x is 2 cm.
