This phenomenon occurs if the angle of incidence is greater than a certain limiting angle, called the critical angle.

When an incident light ray strikes the interface, if the angle of incidene is greater than the critical angle, then the light ray bounces back into the same medium .

this phenomena is called internal reflection .
