QUESTION:

Calculate the value of x and y in the figure. [Refer Attachment]

ANSWER:

The value of

  • x = 42°
  • y = 27°

TO FIND:

  • The value of x and y.

EXPLANATION:

The line L' is straight line hence it makes an angle of 180°. Also we know sum of adjacent angles is 180°.

•°• 2y + 3x = 180°

•°• x + 30° + 4y = 180°

•°• x + 4y = 150°

•°• x = 150° - 4y

Substitute x = 150° - 4y in 2y + 3x = 180°

•°• 2y + 3(150° - 4y) = 180°

•°• 2y + 450° - 12y = 180°

•°• - 10y = 180° - 450°

•°• - 10y = - 270°

•°• y = 27°

Substitute y = 27° in x = 150° - 4y

•°• x = 150° - 4(27°)

•°• x = 150° - 108°

•°• x = 42°

The value of x = 42° and y = 27°.

VERIFICATION:

°•° 2y + 3x = 180°

°•° x + 30° + 4y = 180°

Add the two values

°•° 2y + 3x + x + 30° + 4y = 360°

°•° 6y + 4y + 30° = 360°

Substitute y = 27° and x = 42°.

°•° 6(27°) + 4(42°) + 30° = 360°

°•° 162° + 168° + 30° = 360°

°•° 330° + 30° = 360°

°•° 360° = 360°
