Let the number of flowers be x 
Number of temples needs to be visited = 3 temples 
Flowers to be offered in each temple => 1/2x 

Now, the 1st temple = 1/2x = x/2 
The 2nd temple = 1/2 of 1/2x = 1/4x or x/4 
The 3rd temple = 1/2 of x/4 = 1/8x = x/8 

Remaining flowers = 3
Thus, the total number of flowers = 1st temple + 2nd temple + 3rd temple + 3

x = x/2 + x/4 + x/8 + 3
    (x/4) - (x/8) = 3
        ⇒ x / 8 = 3
        ⇒x = 24
