Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

sec^2 theta - tan^2 theta = 1

Therefore using identity a^2 - b^2

(Sec theta - tan theta)(sec theta + tan theta)=1

But we know

sec theta + tan theta=x..........eq(1)

Therefore

(sec theta - tan theta) (x) = 1

sec theta - tan theta = 1/x...........eq(2)

On comparing both the equations

2 sec theta = x+1/x

sec theta = x^2 +1/2x
