Since R produces 2 molecules of CO2 and 3 molecules of H2O, we can conclude that R is CH3CH3 (Ethane)

CH3CH3 + O2 -----> 2CO2 + 3H2O

Adding nickel catalyst means hydrogenation or making an unsaturated compound to a saturated compound or

triple to double bond or double bond to single bond

Hence, Q is CH2=CH2 (Ethene)

CH2=CH2 (Ni catalyst) ------> CH3CH3

Adding H2SO4, is used to remove OH- as water by protonation by H+ from H2SO4 or to remove an unsaturation

Hence, P can be CH2=CH-OH(Ethanol) or CHCH (Ethyne)
