Here we are given with a colourless unknown solution X which is tested using indicators i.e. Phenolphthalein (A synthetic indicator) and Litmus (A natural indicator).
The Results were:

The above are visual indicators and show change in colour when they react with acids and bases. Mostly, they don't show change in colour in neutral solutions.
Phenolphthalein shows change in colour in bases only. It remains colourless in acidic and neutral solutions but changes to pink in basic solution.
Litmus is available in strips and solutions. They are found in two colours:- Red and Blue. The red colour changes to blue in basic solution. And, blue colour changes to red in acidic solution. But, Red remains red for acidic and blue remains blue for basic.
