There are two main sources of collection of data:-

  1. Primary source
  2. Secondary source

Primary Sources:-

• This type of data implies the collection of data from its source of origin.

• It offers us the first hand quantative information related to our statistical study.

• Like, you and your team of investigators are contacting the respondents (people offering basic information) and obtaining the desired quantative information on per capita expenditure of different households in your town.

Secondary Sources:-

• This type of data implies obtaining the relevant statistical information from an agency, or an institution which is already in possession of that information.

• Secondary source implies that the desired statistical information already exist and we can simply collect it from the concerned agency or departments.
