x=horizontal velocity ×time=u cos theta ×time

t = x÷u cos theta

for vertical motion : u=u sin theta,A = -g,so the vertical distance covered in time t is given by

s=ut+1/2 at2

y=u sin theta × x÷u cos theta -1/2g × x2÷u2 cos2 theta

y= x tan theta - g÷ 2u cos2 theta × x2

y= px - qx2

where p and q are constant

thus y is a quadratic function of x. hence the trajectory of a projectile is a parabola.
